Federation of Clubs, Centers and Associations for UNESCO WFUCA

Since the first UNESCO Club in Japan was founded in 1947, Clubs, Centers and Associations for UNESCO have been invaluable partners for the Organization.

Members of the club movement, who are all volunteers, include people of all ages and nationalities from all walks of life. They share a commitment to UNESCO’s ideals and work to translate them into reality on the ground. Members are therefore well placed to present civil society views to decision makers. In the half century that the UNESCO Clubs movement has existed, the world has witnessed a wide range of events related to each of UNESCO’s fields of competence.

In 2010, the movement included some 3,800 UNESCO associations, centers and clubs in more than 80 countries around the world.

At the international level, the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA) is responsible for informing, coordinating and mobilizing its members, with the support and cooperation of UNESCO.

In light of the growing role of civil society in formulating public policy, the club movement can play a key role in educating citizens and can contribute to dialogue between cultures and generations for sustainable development.

• Support to NGOs and associations registered with the WFUCA: We inform in a timely manner about events and opportunities to collaborate with the United Nations.
• Intergovernmental Support: We serve the NGO Committee, which meets twice a year to review NGO accreditation to the United Nations Economic and Social Council through the World Bank.
• Registration Assemblies: Through CSOs, we facilitate NGO participation in most intergovernmental processes that take place at United Nations headquarters and beyond. Each year, approximately 7,000 NGO representatives participate in these events in New York alone.
• Technical Assistance: With the support of the United Nations Development Account, we carry out limited capacity-building activities with civil society organizations.

Objectives

Promote the ideals, objectives and programs of UNESCO and, to that end, strengthen and encourage the development of UNESCO clubs, centers and associations; promote international understanding and education, particularly with a view to the effective exercise of human rights, the endogenous development of each people and the construction of a new world economic and social order, and to pursue these objectives also in nations and peoples, particularly in order to advance mutual understanding between the different cultures of the world; involve people in UNESCO’s work, particularly at the grassroots level; promote the use of science and technology for peaceful purposes, for the well-being of humanity and, in particular, of developing countries; Promote in all societies the right of each person and each person to a cultural identity.

Mission

WFUCA’s mission is to promote in America, Latin America, Central and the Caribbean within the four main categories of the Unesco WFUCA Club.

Club established in schools (whose members are the students and teaching staff of educational institutions).

Club for running in universities and institutions of higher education.

The clubs are not intended exclusively for schoolchildren or university students who have a recognized legal status among their members who have prominent personalities from the cultural circles or the public sector of the community.

Club made up of members of civil society who have a legal status that designates their spirit of education that brings together different personalities from companies and leaders.

Our vision

This movement confirms the increasingly important role that civil society plays around the world and the influence that citizens can exert in socio-economic decision-making. UNESCO WFUCA has three main functions: training, information and action.

Peace is a right of all living beings, as well as freedom, it is an obligation of each nation and organization responsible for promoting it with actions and programs and programs that enforce this right.

For what we generate, we respect and promote programs that disseminate the cultural heritage of social groups.
